Observations/Finding
Summary
*
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day. On the above date our representative observed the retaining wall contractor (RWS) complete subbase preparation at the west side approach slab at the bridge abutment. The subbase grade tie in to the bridge abutment was 10" to finished grade and tie in to matching curb twenty feet out was 15" to top of curb. The subbase was approved for reinforcing steel placement. The writer observed rebar placement which appeared to be in compliance with site document having double mat steel, bottom mat (#7 bars longitude @8" on center with #5 bars transverse @ 19" on center). Also, top mat (#5 bars 19" on center both ways). The rebar was also observed having sufficient clearance and splice lapping. The contractor placed a half inch expansion board material against abutment wall. The contractor plans to pour a 5000-psi mix to gain early strength to complete additional subbase preparation. The twenty feet 10" approach slab was extended full width across both travel lanes including the median. The contractor also began subbase preparation at the east side of bridge abutment moving electrical conduits outside of curb limits. The paving contractor NWGP begin subgrade preparation at Unit 4, Phase 2 main roadway to the cul-de-sac. The electrical contractor Mastec continued excavation installing conduits at Unit 4, Phase 1B and continued compaction efforts using backhoe to track in. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
