Observations/Finding

The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques wee employed to assure compliance with project drawling/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observation were made on site today.

  1. The contractor was observe excavating a pit behind lot #5 approximately 35’ outside the proposed building pad. The pit is approximately  17’ in depth.
  2. 4 test pits where excavated inside of lot #27 as well as the main drive in front of lot #27 for the purpose of quantifying the amount of heavy organic material that needs to be removed prior to the placement of structural fill. An average thickness of 2’ of organic laden material was determined over this area and the excavation of this material proceeded.
  3. The inspector visually observed the previously installed creek crossing storm drain between HW F20 and HW F10 having been installed and structural fill placed in this area. A total of 3’ of filled was placed above the pipe to protect the pipe and reopen access to this portion of the site. The fill was placed in 8” lifts and compacted using a trench roller. Random Exploratory penetration resistance testing was used during each lift to ensure compaction and safety of the storm line. Further testing will continue once the the above mentioned road and lot #27 can be brought to grade.
  4. The inspector observed the placement of structural fill across lots #4-#2. Based on review of guidelines for fill placement, the required compaction for structural fill at the above mentioned area is 95% of a standard Proctor. Based on visual observation and field measuring, the fill was placed in 10-12” thick lifts and compacted using a CAT 815 as well as a sheep’s foot. Based on density testing, the fill placed today at elevations approximately 1090 was compacted according  to project specifications and found to be acceptable. See attached density test results for more details.
