Observations/Finding
AS Engineering and Consulting, LLC (ASEC) representative, Tim Nevills, was on site as requested by Client and/or Contractor to perform quality related observations and testing at this site.
Visual observation techniques and/or standard test methods were employed to evaluate work in-place for general compliance with the Project Plans, Specifications, Codes and Standards and Material Submittals.
This report is prepared to provide our findings at Storm Structure A-7 and provide our recommendations.
We understand,
- the existing subgrade consists of approximately 18 inches of #57 stone and the proposed bottom elevation of the new structure is approximately 18 inches above existing grade.
- It appears the subgrade stability in this area was improved before installing the old structure. The #57 stone present under the old structure appeared to be relatively clean and had performed well.
- Shallow ground water was observed.
Based on these findings, we propose
- Remove inundated material from within the footprint of the proposed structure and to an additional 3 feet outside the edge of the structure.
- Bring up the elevation under the proposed structure using #57 stone and extend the treatment to at least 3 feet outside the edge of the structure. This should help deal with the existing shallow ground water conditions as well.
- Care should be taken to replace the inundated material with #57 stone without further delay.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns with regards to this transmittal.
