Observations/Finding
The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today:
A proof-roll was conducted utilizing a loaded tandem-axled dump truck to determine if specific roadway subgrades were suitable for paving. No severe pumping and/or rutting was observed along most of the deceleration lane directly in front of the Harmony Heights development.
However, one unstable area was observed along the right side of the main entrance near the curbing of the center island. This area (approximately 10 feet x 3 feet) exhibited noticeable pumping. This area was over-excavated to a depth of 18 inches. The undercut area was replaced with GAB (graded aggregate base) in three equal lifts of 6 inches and compacted with a smooth-drum roller (Cat CS-433E) after each lift. This area is now acceptable for further construction of the planned pavement.
