Observations/Finding
The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today:
Upon arrival, it was observed that fill material was being brought on site from an off-site borrow pit. Due to high levels of moisture content on the base layer of the residual sandy soils a recommendation was made to the grading foreman to not use the vibrator on the Bomag, BW211 Compactor. The soils being delivered displayed a suitable moisture content for fill placement.
Initially the soil after compaction passed testing. Throughout the day additional testing was completed in the same location and elevation at Station 14+00 on the main road in front of the detention pond. Moisture levels increased while compaction decreased as tandem axel dump truck traffic continued to rut and pump in-place soils. The contractor was notified of this issue.
