Observations/Finding

The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today:

Several Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) tests were performed on the footing area for a proposed concrete Retaining wall A.  Initial probing showed the soils were of a sandy material and felt loose for the first several inches.  Underneath the sandy material the majority of the proposed footing looks to be underlain by rock.

In addition, a large rock was observed to protrude from the footing base and to interfere with footing placement.  Following a discussion with ASEC representative Ken Mosman, it was decided that the contractor would be required to contact the retaining wall engineer and inform him of the rock at footing elevation.

In addition, an approximate 2 foot wide by 2-foot-long x 2-foot-deep soft area was discovered.  A recommendation was made to remove this soft section and replace with crushed stone or concrete.  A discussion of the findings was held with Josh the wall crew foreman.
