Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today:
A request was made to test bearing pressure for the proposed silo pad at the C.W. Matthews asphalt plant in Dalton Georgia. A Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) test would typically be performed; however, the area had already been filled and compacted with graded aggregate base (GAB) so no DCP testing was able to be performed to determine bearing pressures.
The GAB compaction was tested using a Troxler soil density gauge. Compaction test results are included on an attached report for this day.
A discussion was held with the crew foreman in charge of GAB placement. It was recommended more water should added to help with compaction. He stated that a water truck was not available, and no water was on site. C.W. Matthews elected to re-compact the GAB further.
In addition, two separate areas on this site were scheduled for concrete placement.
