Observations/Finding

Upon arrival on site, our ASEC representative found the contractor completing undercutting. The undercut area was approximately 8 ft in depth, 30-40 ft in length & 15-20 ft in width. The Contractor informed our representative that the undercut area would be backfilled with suitable materials.  The area would then be sealed off to prevent rain and water from getting to the area. The backfilling was done in lifts, with the 1st lift being 1.5 ft, each lift after the first lift was 10 in thickness. A total of 5 lifts were placed today.  Each lift was probed with a 3/8″ probe rod with an average penetration of 0.5 inches to 1.5 inches. The compaction was done with a CP-563c Compactor.
