Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today:
Upon arrival a density test was performed on the previous section of lift #8 on the Dam Keyway that failed on April 2nd. Please find the attached Density report.
The next section of Dam Keyway was excavated with a Komatsu PC 36. The section removed was approximately 20 feet wide x 20 feet long x 10 feet deep. The soil material removed was a gray fine sandy clay with some organics. As water intrusion occurred, a discussion was held with Ram Mogulla PE with ASEC on possible remediation recommendations. All water was removed with a pump and the area was de-mucked. It was recommended that no vibration be used during compaction (using a sheeps-foot compactor (Catapillar CP3)) for the first 2 lifts. As per Mr. Mogulla, the first lift was not checked for soil density or moisture content. Two lifts were completed.
