Observations/Finding
The site was visited by the undersigned AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today.
Upon arrival, work was not being performed. Our ASEC representative discussed with contractors that surficial soils were probing soft. The contractor agreed to remove and area 15 feet in length, 4.5 feet in width and to a depth of 2 feet where more stable soils were found. This remediation took place on the right side of the Creek #2 road crossing and facing the dam. After remediation, contractor then backfilled with soil. A CAT bulldozer spread fill material brought by two CAT dump trucks and compacted with a Boomag caterpillar compactor.
Once the task was completed, contractors moved on to place lifts that took place outside of the Creek #2 road crossing. Based upon density test results, the lifts placed were found to meet compaction requirements though the moisture contents were still deemed high. After talking to Ram Mogulla P.E. of ASEC it was agreed to do a proof-roll using a CAT dump truck. The proof-roll was found to be stable and fill placement continued. A total of 5 lifts performed with each lift being 8in in depth. See attached density test results.
