Observations/Finding

Our AS Engineering and Consulting, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the site at the contractor’s request to visually inspect footing excavations for shallow footings for Lots #21, 78, 63, and 16.  Our hand auguring/probing exposed stiff residual silty fine sands. However, loose soils were encountered around the area where pipes were exposed. We recommended that additional reinforcing steel be added to these areas.  Soils were found to be acceptable to support the proposed one-story structure for an allowable soil bearing pressure of 2000 psf. Concrete should be placed before the onset of inclement weather. If excavations are become wet and/or soft, ASEC should return to the site to re-evaluate the foundations soils.
