Observations/Finding

Our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative visited the site for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today.

Upon arrival our representative found that work was already in progress. The contractor continued placing fill around the A11 structure with a Komatsu 39px bulldozer (soil was bought by 1 Cat dump truck) and compacted with a Sakai cp-11 Caterpillar compactor. Each lift placed was approximately 10 inches in thickness. Density tests were performed using a Troxler 3430 nuke gauge #38069.   Test results were reported to the contractor. Following several failing density tests, our representative contacted Ram Mogulla, P.E. of ASEC for guidance.  Mr. Mogulla recommended a proof-roll be performed in this area to test stability. The proof-roll found the surficial soils to be stable and the contractor continued with the placement of an additional lift.
