Observations/Finding
The site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today.
Upon arrival, our representative observed work was already in progress. No. 57 stone was being placed as backfill along the footing depth. Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) tests were performed and encountered auger refusal after 2 feet (some groundwater was also encountered). According to random probing the underlying soils 2 feet below bottom of footing was found to be stable for #57 stone placement. After discussion with Ram Mogulla P.E. of ASEC, recommendations were made for the contractor to remove the 2 feet of soft soils and then replace with #57 stone.
