Observations/Finding
Our ASEC representative was on site as requested by Century Communities to observe the contractor’s placement of a sewer line. Visual observation techniques were employed to evaluate work in-place for general compliance with the Project Plans, Specifications, Codes and Standards, and M2 trial Submittals. Charles Pruit contractors were on the job site.
- The first lift was placed before we arrived on site.
- After a 30 min thunderstorm, the eastern section of the trench was flooded, and puddles of water were on the surface near the manhole. The other areas were within acceptable conditions for soil placement and compaction to be resumed.
- The contractor used the Whacker Packer for 30 min to compact the soils within the satisfactory areas of the trench. Compaction tests are below:
Compaction Test:
Test #1
Wet Density: 111.4 pcf
Dry Density: 89.2 pcf
Moisture Content: 24.9 %
Compaction: 87%
Test #2
Wet Density: 116.6 pcf
Dry Density: 88.9 pcf
Moisture Content: 31.1%
Compaction: 86.6%
Test #3
Wet Density: 117.5 pcf
Dry Density: 94.6 pcf
%: 24.2
Compaction: 90%
Compaction Tests #1 and #2 were below the job specification requirements and the contractor was advised to recompact before continuing with soil placement.
