Observations/Finding
Our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING (ASEC) representative visited the site at the client’s request to observe
the contractor’s field activities. Visual observation techniques were employed to evaluate work in place for general compliance with the project plans and specifications. The following was observed:
9am to 11 :40am = The contractor was cutting back manhole subgrade soils several feet in an area of 20′ x 10′.
11:40am to 12 :18pm = Raining on site.
12:18pm to 1pm = Formed manhole structure and begin placing gravel at the base. Thickness of the gravel layer was observed to be 12 to 16 inches.
1:30pm to 4pm = Placed fabric over the gravel layer at the manhole prior to the placing of backfill. Ultimately, the onset of heavier rain ended activities for the day soon after.
