Observations/Finding

As requested, our AS Engerineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative visited the site for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services, visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. the following observations were observed on site this day.

Contractor continued work from Lot #33 to Lot #40, and from Lot #56 to Lot #63.  Fill was placed and spread using a dozer. Compaction was performed using a sheeps-foot roller.

Density testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear gauge (#3430, serial #85759).

Density test results indicate that the compacted materials did not meet the project compaction specification of 90% of the maximum dry density obtained by the (Standard Proctor ASTM 698). It was a rainy day so soil moisture contents were observed to be too high as severe movement of surficial soils were observed under construction traffic.  We recommend to scarify and aerate these soils in drier weather prior to recompaction.

Density testing result:

Moisture-Density Relationship (proctor) = 96.5 @ 22.2%

T1-elevation -2 feet from finish grade @ lot 39, Yd 84.5, M%29.9, Compaction: 87.6 %

T2-elevation -2 feet from finish grade @ lot 34, Yd 83.8, M%29.2, Compaction: 86.8 %

T3-elevation at finish grade @ lot 56, Yd 84.7, M%30.1, Compaction: 87.7 %

T4-elevation at finish grade @ lot 61, Yd 85.5, M%34.6, Compaction: 88.6 %
