Observations/Finding
As requested, our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative has completed an engineering evaluation of the slab and perimeter footings at the above-mentioned residential unit. The footing evaluation was performed by visual inspection, hand probing, and dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) testing. During the evaluation, well compacted fill soils were encountered underlain by residual soils.
These soils were found to be capable of supporting the building structure utilizing an allowable soil bearing pressure of 2,000 psf.
Reinforcing steel for footings and slab was visually inspected and appeared to be in accordance with approved project specifications for size, spacing and quantity. During our evaluation it was noted the welded wire mesh was adequately overlapped, vapor barrier was installed and taped as needed, rebar standees were used as needed to provide cover and the rebar appeared to have adequate lap length for its size.
AS Engineering and Consulting appreciates the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact us.
Conditions on site consisted of saturated soils in the top 6 inches due to heavy rains. We recommend the top 6 inches be scarified and aerated to reduce in-situ moisture contents prior to recompaction.
