Observations/Finding
As requested, our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative visited the site to perform subgrade soil testing for a basement wall for Lots #101-105 at Parkside at Mason mill. Footings were staked and outlined with wire. Hand probing and DCPs were performed to evaluate the relative soil strength. The DCP locations are marked on the attached image.
Well-consolidated soils were encountered at DCP B and DCP D. Unconsolidated moist micaceous sandy silts were encountered in the top 6 inches of DCP – C 1, C2, C3, and C4. This area is approximately 20 feet long and is noted in red on the attached photo. We recommend removal of the upper 12 inches of soft soils in this outlined area and backfill with lean concrete. Underlying subgrade soils beneath the remediation area should be rechecked prior to concrete placement in the event of rain or frost.
