Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by the AS Engerineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative noted above, for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services, visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawing/specifications,
applicable codes, and materials submittals. the following observations were observed on site this day.
Contractor continued work backfill for road and over 30″ diameter pipe. water line between STA 7004+00 to STA 7010+00,
At the time of arrival, the contractor already placed one lift of dirt. at depths about 2 feet below finished grade were compacted using a single drum compactor.
Density testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear gauge (#3430, serial #85759).
tests result for dirt indicated that the compacted material not met project requirement of 95% of the maximum dry density obtained by the (Modified Proctor). Due to high moisture observed in the available soil, the contractor started using M10 sand as backfill material. M10 sand was placed in about 8″ lifts and compacted.
Density testing result for soil:
P-12 proctor-119.8@12.3%
T1-elevation -2 feet from finish grade. Yd 101.5 M%21.4, Compaction: 83.9 %
T2 (Retest to T1)-elevation -2 feet from finish grade Yd 109.5, M%17.8, Compaction: 91.4%
Density testing result for M10 Stone:
P-1 proctor 120.6@7.1%
T3-elevation -1.5 feet from finish grade. Yd 116.0, M%3.7, Compaction: 96.2 %
T4-elevation -1.5 feet from finish grade Yd 117.0, M% 4.2, Compaction: 97.01%
