Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by the AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative noted above, for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Site Observations:
I-Line:
- The trench excavated to install I-line has been open for some time and went through several cycles of weather.
- On this day the contractor continued to de-muck the trench for I-line.
- The author along with QA observed water within the trench and in areas closest to I3 and I4 structures.
- The author recommended to either remove all water and then start backfill with structural fill or use #57 stone to get above the water level. and then continue with structural fill.
- If #57 stone was to be used, it will have to be covered with fabric to avoid any future migration of fines.
- The contractor chose to backfill using #57 stone and later with M10 sand. due to non availability of drier structural fill material.
Area south of E-2:
- Contractor requested a proof roll evaluation of area within taxiway station 409+00 to 408+00. Proof roll was performed using a 740b, off road truck. Proofroll passed and was found acceptable.
Please find attached pictures of activities in the above mentioned areas.
If you have any questions with regards to our observations or conclusions please reach out to us and we will be happy to discuss our findings and would welcome the opportunity to provide additional services or input necessary to complete this project.
