Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative noted above, for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services, visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. the following observations were observed on site this day.
The placement and compaction of backfill soils for the water storm pipe trench between manholes BA80 and BA81.and sewer pipe trench between Manholes A2 and B2 continued today.
At the time of arrival, we observed that work was in progress with soils placed to about 4 feet below finished grade and compacted using a CP-433E compactor,
Test results indicate that the compacted material did not meet the project requirement of 90% of the maximum dry density obtained by the (Standard Proctor ASTM 698) due to high moisture contents. It was recommended to scarify and aerate surficial soils to dry out. In addition, several soil samples were retrieved and returned to our lab to run Moisture-Density Relationships.
Density testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear gauge (#3430, serial #85759).
Density testing results will be provided once the proctor is completed.
