Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by the AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative noted above, for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services, visual observation techniques were employed to assure compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
The placement and compaction of backfill soils for the water storm pipe trench between manholes, MH AA30 and MH AA40 continued this day.
At the time of arrival, our representative observed that work was in progress with lifts being placed at about 10 feet below finished grade and compacted using a CP-432C compactor.
Density test results indicate that the compacted materials met the project requirement of 90% of the maximum dry density obtained by the (Standard Proctor ASTM 698), however, moisture contents were found to be high.
Note: The water storm pipe trench between manholes, MH AA10 and MH AA30 exhibited moisture contents of more than 30%. The contractor informed our representative that this area was landscaping.
Density testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear gauge (#3430, serial #85759). Results are attached.
