Observations/Finding

Our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative was on site for the purpose of providing visual quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on site today:

A request was made for compaction testing for the final lift of the vault 3 area for the Graded Aggregate Base. The lift was then topped off with calcium chloride.  Tests were completed using a Troxler 3430 (serial number 38069)

Test #1 South side

134.5 pcf (Dry Density), 1.8% (Moisture Content)

Test #2 North side

132.1 pcf (Dry Density), 2.9% (Moisture Content)

Cheoah was concerned since calcium chloride had been added no additional water or compaction could be completed.  This area requires no structural pavement.

No further testing or remediation was performed.
