Observations/Finding

On 08-08-2023, the AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative visited the Carodel Farms site to conduct quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were made on-site:

  1. Installation of Manhole A-7: The contractor installed Manhole A-7 with 4” stone (057) at the bottom. The quality control representative visually inspected the installation and confirmed that it adhered to the project requirements.
  2. Installation of PVC Pipes: Between Manhole A-8 and A-7, the contractor installed PVC pipes. The contractor prepared the bottom with 4” stone and also used 4” stone as cover for the pipes. The quality control representative visually assessed the installation and verified that it was executed according to project specifications.
  3. Excavation and Backfilling Operations: The contractor excavated Detention Pond 1A and utilized the material to fill Lots #40 to 49. Additionally, the contractor performed cuts and placed fill on Lots #16, 17, and 18.
  4. Moisture Concerns and Recommendations: Two test density measurements were conducted on Lots #17 and 18. Due to recent heavy rains, the moisture contents were found to be far above optimum moisture contents. Given this, the quality control representative recommended that the contractor open up these areas, allowing them to aerate before being scarified and re-compacted.
