Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Location: Between stations 4.2 and 4.3 (moving North); Headwall BA1

Sanitation Sewer Main Installation: An 8-inch Ductile iron pipe was placed between stations 4.2 and 4.3, moving north. The following key points summarize the installation process:

  1. Water Intrusion Management:
    • Water intrusion into the excavated trench was encountered during the installation process.
    • The water was not removed.   Approximately 12 inches of 57 stone bedding was placed in the trench to provide support and drainage.
  2. Density Testing:
    • No density testing was conducted as per the request of the site foreman due to trench safety concerns.

Graded Aggregate Base (GAB) Usage: GAB was utilized for laterals in all lifts, with depths ranging from approximately 2 to 3 feet under the future roadway. Key details regarding GAB usage are as follows:

  1. Laterals Preparation:
    • GAB was placed at laterals to provide a stable base for future roadway construction.
    • Soil placement past the roadway on laterals was also placed at a depth of approximately 2 to 3 feet.  This lift thickness should be kept to 8 to 12 inches.  The grading company was made aware of the deficiency.  They continued placing the next lift against recommendations.

Rock Removal at Headwall Location BA1: Continued efforts were made to remove rock at the headwall location BA1. The following summarizes the progress:

  1. Utilization of Hoe-Ram:
    • The Hoe-Ram was employed for rock removal, ensuring the site remains conducive to further construction activities.
