At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to verify compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications.  The following observations were made on site this shift:

  • A pre-pour observation was performed for Taxiway 2022 replacement in lane 4, hand pour, panel 1 from the west end, portions of the project on this day. Contractor completed rebar and dowel basket placement for these lanes.
  • The writer visually inspected the installation and setup of these lanes and advised the contractor representatives of any minor corrections that were needed.
  • The contractor cleaned loose rock and debris and standing water from the base.
  • Baskets were found to be level, straight and secured.
  • Dowel bars were found to have epoxy.  Embedment length was found to be 15 inches into concrete.
  • The writer along with Thomas of ATLQA and ATLNext representative Braylyn signed the pre-pour card.
  • Performed a proof-roll for shoulder located in the east side of phase 7A.  Subgrade soils appeared to be at finished grade elevation based on the information provided. A fully loaded water truck was used to proof-roll the above-mentioned subgrade with multiple passes across the area.

No severe yielding and/or deflection was observed during the proof-roll at all areas mentioned above.

  • Observed and performed testing of concrete for Taxiway lane 4, hand pour, panel 1, from west end.
  • Concrete observed on this date appeared to be placed in compliance with project specifications with regard to temperature, slump, air content, and batch to placement time.
  • Kelly was working under drains from the edge of purposed Taxiway lane 3 phase 7 towards manhole A-1.
