Observations/Finding

At the request of the client’s representative, our AS ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the job site to observe and monitor the contractor’s work activities from a quality standpoint to assure compliance with project drawings/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals and conducted QC testing per the project drawings and specifications.  The following observations were made on site this shift:

Summary: A call was received from the foreman concerning water intrusion upon the removal of topsoil in the affected area, comprising lots 95, 96, and 97, approximately 25 feet x 85 feet in size (refer to attached photos and diagram). To address the issue, a call was made to the ASEC PE for expert advice.

Actions Taken:

  1. Consultation with ASEC PE:
    • The ASEC PE recommended pumping all water out of the detention pond to mitigate the water intrusion.
    • Discussions were held with the foreman regarding the potential need for permission from the county or state authorities to pump water from the detention pond into the creek.
  2. Recommendations:
    • It was advised to remove water from the pond before proceeding with the required 10 feet of soil lifts.
    • The potential use of stone may be necessary to address the water intrusion effectively.
    • Additional investigation and discussion are required before proceeding further with the remediation efforts.

Conclusion: The issue of water intrusion in the affected area necessitates careful management and coordination with relevant authorities to ensure compliance with regulations regarding water discharge from the detention pond. Further investigation and discussion are essential to determine the most appropriate course of action to address the issue effectively while adhering to regulatory requirements.
