Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day:
Upon arrival at the site, it was discussed with the foreman that a burn pit had been previously located at the future tennis court area, measuring approximately 70 feet by 70 feet and 8 feet deep (see attached photos). The buried organic and burned material from this pit was excavated and relocated to a non-structural slope area.
During excavation, water intrusion was observed in the newly cleared area. A call was placed to the ASEC engineer, who recommended the use of on-site rock less than 24 inches material and geotextile fabric on the western side of the area to address the water intrusion.
While implementing the recommendation, it was noted that some of the rock placed exceeded 24 inches in size, contrary to the specified recommendation. A meeting was held with the operator to address concerns about potential air voids due to the oversized rock.
No further observations were made at this time.
