Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site as requested and observed the grading contractor continue undercutting at the roadway between station 18+00 and 11+00. The contractor had undercut most areas approximately 1 foot to 4.75 feet where ground water was observed at the deeper undercut areas.  Recommendations made were to undercut only 12 to 16 inches, removing saturated surface soils and organic debris at locations having six feet or greater amounts of fill to be placed. Remaining in place darken topsoil which is suitable for structural fill may require scarifying to lower moisture contents.  A thicken soil layer of dry material can be placed over residual soils to stabilize undercut base prior to placing additional structure fill and performing density tests. The writer also performed density tests at building Lots #21 thru #30 using a Troxler nuclear gauge model 3430.  Compaction results were in compliance with project specifications.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
