Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date, our ASEC representative was onsite as requested by the contractor (Wilbanks) for the observation/testing of soils.

We observed the contractor undercut Lots #16, #17, and partially #18 approximately 5 feet. There was water present in the undercut with some areas probing soft. The lot will be filled with approximately 15 feet of soil. The contractor requested a recommendation for the best solution. Mr. Clyde Smith of ASEC was called for an evaluation and recommendation. Mr. Smith recommended to place approximately 5 feet of riprap and compact to create a solid foundation for the soil lifts. A series of probe rod tests were performd.

The contractor asked the representative to calculate an estimate of soils being undercut on the lots. The lots measured approximately 50 feet x 50 feet with a 5-foot undercut. The soils removed were estimated to be 12,000 cubic feet or 463 cubic yards per lot. The technician also provided the contractor with the estimate of topsoil in the bank parallel to Lots #15 through #20 (as mentioned in previous days report). The bank was measured to be approximately 300 feet x 30 feet x 9 feet. The estimated topsoil was 81,000 cubic feet or 3000 cubic yards total.

The technician also observed the installation of SSMH1.1 with approximately 1 foot of No. 57 stone bedding to elevation. In the center of the pipeline that runs from SSMH1.1 and SSMH1.0B, there was an approximately 5 feet of undercut spanning approximately 10 feet in length, that was replaced with approximately 4 feet of clean (trucked in) riprap and capped with approximately 1 foot of No. 57 stone to elevation. This is in addition to the same size undercut from SSMH1.0B as mentioned in the previous day’s report.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
