Subject: Sod Removal and Topsoil Placement – Runway 10-28 West Approach
Location: West Approach End of Runway 10-28 (Area with Navigational Lights)
Personnel Present:
-
ATLNext (Escort and Oversight)
-
CW Matthews
-
Kelly Construction
-
QA Personnel
Summary of Activities:
ATLNext escorted the work group to the designated work location at the west approach end of Runway 10-28, in the area containing navigational lights (see attached photos).
It was observed that the previously placed sod in this area had died. As part of today’s operation, the old sod was removed using a Caterpillar 275 skid steer and loaded onto tandem dump trucks with a Caterpillar 938 wheeled loader. The removed material was then hauled offsite for disposal.
Topsoil Operations:
-
Topsoil was delivered from the Gate 26 stockpile, an offsite location previously lab-tested.
-
The topsoil was spread over the prepared area to an approximate thickness of 2 inches.
-
A new topsoil sample was collected upon delivery.
-
After placement, the soil was prepped and compacted using a John Deere farm tractor equipped with a CP1696 cultipacker attachment.
As of 3:00 PM, approximately 75% of the topsoil placement was complete, at which point all personnel were required to vacate the site.
