Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Westminister Dr., Drilling Inspection:

After our Operational Manager marked all the proposed boring locations, we awaited the United Consulting representative’s review and approval. Borings 1 through 4 were approved without any modifications. However, for boring locations 5 and 6, the representative requested adjustments—boring 5 was relocated approximately 40 feet upward, and boring 6 was shifted around 70 feet in the same direction. Upon verification, these new locations matched exactly with the boring plan I had.

Drilling began at 10:00 AM at boring location 1. The process went smoothly, and the area was properly patched and cleaned after completion. We then moved to boring 2, but drilling was halted at a depth of 6 feet due to encountering rock. We proceeded to boring 3 next, but due to previously unnoticed overhead power lines, we decided to skip it for safety and continue to boring 4.

At boring 4, drilling was immediately stopped upon striking a hard concrete layer at a depth of just 1 foot. We then waited for the sanitary locator, who arrived around 1:00 PM. He marked offset zones and established 10-foot clearance boxes around borings 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to allow safe alternate drilling points. Boring 3 was also adjusted slightly downward toward the stop sign to avoid power line interference.

Drilling resumed at an offset point approximately 2 feet from the original boring 2 location. Again, rock was encountered at 6 feet, and a second offset yielded the same result. At the offset location for boring 3, drilling reached 10 feet before hitting rock; a sample was collected at that depth and drilling was stopped. A further attempt at boring 4 resulted in the same outcome as before—only 1 foot of drilling was possible before hitting the concrete layer again.

Borings 5 and 6 posed similar difficulties. Despite three offset attempts at each, hard concrete layers were encountered consistently. At both locations, drilling reached only 6 inches before being stopped due to the subsurface obstruction, making further progress unfeasible.
