Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
The purpose of today’s visit was to visually inspect the foundation for the aerial utility support structure.
When our representative arrived on site, it was observed that four test pits had been excavated approximately 8 to 10 feet below grade through soft wet materials in an attempt to reach a suitable bearing level. The excavations were mostly filled with water with some excavation sides caving. Photos were taken and are seen below.
Mr. Ram Mogulla of AS Engineering & Consulting was contacted and recommended that the footing excavations be pumped out and soft soils removed down to a stable subgrade. Following demucking, we recommend the placement of 18 inches of “baby” surge stone (approximate diameter of 3 to 4 inches), compacted, followed by a 6 inch layer of compacted GAB (Graded Aggregate Base). Fill placement may then be continued from there.
Our representative also observed the sewer line trench backfill operations and after general probing, recommended that the sewer line backfill be recompacted.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
