Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
-
The placement and compaction of fill for the Lot #14,15, 17, 18 and sewer trenches between MH9 and MH8 and MH6, continued on this day. Upon arrival, the ASEC representative observed active work in progress, with fill being placed in 1-foot lifts. Compaction was carried out using a sheeps-foot roller (14-ton) along with a trench compactor for the sewer trench and F815 compactor for the lots. Compaction testing was performed using a Troxler nuclear density gauge, supplemented by general probing with a 3/8″ diameter probe rod. The density test results indicated that most of the compacted materials met the project requirement of achieving at least 95% of the maximum dry density, in accordance with ASTM D698 (Standard Proctor).
- NOTE: Tests in Lot #17 and #18 failed due to moisture contents being higher than specified. It was recommended to scarify, aerate and recompact the soils. For the lots they placed 2-foot thickened lifts.
