Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was on site and observed the contractor continue subgrade repairs after removing an area that had failed asphalt at Azalea Crossing. The first repair area #1 was observed by removing in place base GAB averaging 4.5″and 5.0″at observed areas performing hand auger borings to depths of minus three feet. The in-place subgrade soils were probed using a rounded end steel rod indicating slightly above optimum moisture soils in place. It was recommended to clip these in-place subgrade soils -6″ and replace with additional GAB stone to increase base stone thicknesses to 10″ to 12″. The area observed was approximately 9’x 175′ between house addresses 295 and 331.The writer observed GAB stone replacement, but compaction efforts weren’t completed and will be re-observed on 9/10/25.  See attached photos below.
