Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Report Summary:
On a previous day, a sub-grade proof roll was performed on the soils in the entrance/exit and deceleration lane area. The proof-roll results indicated that the sub-grade soils were unstable. Based on these findings, a recommendation for remediation was made at that time. It was requested at the time for areas to have an additional 6 inches of graded aggregate base (GAB) placed for a total of 18 inches where possible.
Today, remediation work began with a 6-inch undercut of all accessible areas (see photos), performed by Thompson Grading. Areas located near existing utilities—including a suspected gas line, power line, and fiber optic line—were excluded from undercutting to prevent potential utility damage.
The following equipment was utilized during soil removal operations:
-
Tandem off-road dump truck
-
Komatsu Dozer 39PX
-
Komatsu Excavator PC210
No further observations were made on this day.
