Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. Density testing was performed along the retaining wall, and all test results were provided to the contractor. Backfill placement and compaction results were found to meet job specifications for compaction.
Trucks started bringing in unsuitable materials for backfilling in structural areas. This material consisted of large boulders, topsoil, and trash. It was the contractor’s decision to stop bringing in this unsuitable material. Our representative recommended to not use this material in any structural fill areas. The wall contractors agreed.
It was requested for Mr. Jenkins (Orion) to be onsite at 9:00am to meet with our ASEC supervisor to discuss concerns/problems that Mr. Jenkins has expressed about our ASEC representative on site. Mr. Jenkins did not show up to the site for the entire day and never spoke with our ASEC supervisor. Instead, our ASEC supervisor spoke with the on-site wall supervisor Glen. Glen agreed that the new system of placing backfill (in smaller lifts and using two different sheep-foot rollers) has been working well and that they are pleased with the work they have been able to complete.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
