Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. Upon arrival to the site, it appeared the road contractors (Bowlin) had filled another approximate 1-foot lift in the roadway. This lift was placed over previously failed compaction tested lifts during the prior workday. Density testing was conducted as requested by the contractor. All test results were provided to the contractor. It appears that the fill material stockpile is too dry, so the contractor is adding water and attempting to correct the moisture content. The contractor is also spraying water on top of the installed lifts and attempting to compact these areas again.
The wall contractors (Orion) continued placing backfill along the retaining wall in approx. 6in to 8in lifts. Density testing was conducted as requested, and all test results were provided to the contractor. Some areas along the wall stairstep up and testing locations display different elevations to adjust for wall size (as stated in the density test reports). As shown in the below pictures, the retaining wall runs in-between the telephone support lines. It was the contractor’s decision to continue with the installation of the wall, and to cut their blocks around the support lines.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
