Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services.  Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above date our representative was on site to observe the continuing of asphalt paving and repairs according to project plans and specifications. The writer observed the paving contractor continue placing 25mm base mix for the east side deceleration lane and exit after and additional recommended area of in-place asphalt was saw cut and removed. Also, two recommended subgrade areas located at the exit lane were repaired as requested by clipping -4″ and re placing with additional 25mm base asphalt. The -4″ replacement which was under the old exiting pavement was lessened because of unknown utilities in the area (an area of approximately 10’x 7’x 4″ and 9’x 5’x 4″). The contractor also placed 19mm binder mix for the east and west sides of the deceleration lanes and also at the exit lane which was repaired by milling and curb replacement. The contractor also poured 1 cubic yard of class B concrete at the west side deceleration island. Binder was also topped off at the deceleration lanes with 12.5mm asphalt mix. In addition, the writer observed preparation procedures for cleaning areas prior to placing tack coat and to perform temperature checks of fresh asphalt (295, 305 and 310 degrees, Fahrenheit). Approximately 10 tons of 12.5mm asphalt mix was needed to complete topping for the exit lane. Total asphalt tonnage placed today: 25mm base= 57.79 tons, 19mm binder = 170.67 tons and 12.5mm topping = 112.62 tons.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
