Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
The contractor began the day by clearing and removing soil from the backside of the slope to achieve the required cut depth for the full design height of the retaining wall.
After the clearing work, the crew proceeded with the next sequence of backfilling and lift placement at multiple station points along the alignment:
•Station 293+00
The crew completed the third lift. The design grade at this location is approximately 21 feet from the base of the wall.
•Station 160+00
The second lift was placed here. The design grade at this station is 19 feet.
•Station 350+00
The first lift of backfill was installed at this location. The target design grade at this station is 18 feet.
Once the lifts were placed, compaction began. After compaction was completed, nuclear gauge density testing was performed across all three stations. All test results indicated that compaction requirements were met as per project specifications.
Moisture content readings were also taken and were found to be within the required optimum moisture range.
Overall, all testing completed on November 6 met project requirements, and soil conditions at all stations appeared to be stable and suitable for continued retaining wall construction.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
