Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor is completing the thickened lift on the approximate area in-between Lots #13 through #20. At this time, it does not appear that the contractor has finished placing the thickened lift. Density testing will be performed once the contractor starts placing compacted structural fill.

ASEC performed DCP testing of the retaining wall #4 footing (located below Lot #15) with our automatic Dynamic Cone Penetrometer. DCP results encountered refusal on 4 locations at approximately 1 to 2 feet in depth. DCP bearing pressure numbers appeared to be within design specifications for the wall in this location. Additional testing will be performed as more of the footing is cleared.

Our representative met with Daniel (NG Grading) to discuss and form a plan to begin testing the footings for the other 4 walls. ASEC requested the contractor create a roadway to maneuver the DCP truck to the testing locations.  The contractor agreed to help and will be in contact with ASEC about scheduling the additional testing.

Our representative also obtained 2 soil samples to take to the lab to conduct various soil index testing. Samples were taken from the cut areas that will be used to backfill the wall. These test results should be available next week.

ASEC recommended to the contractor to remove any large organics from structural fill used, or to not use this fill in structural areas. The contractor agreed but put minimal effort into removing organics.

The pipe crew continued installation of storm line in the green space located by the deceleration lane by front entrance.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
