Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
The following day, work continued at the pond area where the crew compacted the remaining final lifts. After completing the pond work, the crew moved to the area between SD2P 9+16 and SD2P 9+20. A proof-roll was performed in this section; visible pumping and/or deflection were observed under the roller. Based on these observations, a test pit was recommended to identify and remove unsuitable material. Upon excavation, the soil was found to consist of a mixture of topsoil and unsuitable (non-structural) material. The contractor removed approximately 1.5 to 2.0 feet of the unsuitable soil and replaced it with suitable fill material. The replacement soil was placed in 2 to 3 controlled lifts, each approximately 6 to 8 inches thick, and compacted. After reworking, the area exhibited improved stability.
