Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (Thomson Grading and Savannah Excavation) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.

The grading crew placed a mixture of wood chips and topsoil along the bank of the cul-de-sac area of phase 2. This was due to a large stockpile being hit during the cutting for structural fill to be used in the cul-de-sac area. The contractor is spending most of the day removing wood chips and topsoil. The contractor plans to leave early for the holidays.

The pipe crew continued installation of pipeline SSMH 11 to SSMH 12. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. Part of the excavation runs through where the drilling/blasting of rock was conducted. ASEC recommended to mix the blasted rock with finer fill material to prevent voids being present when backfilling. The contractor is also placing a layer of approximately 1 to 2 feet thick of finer material over the pipeline before using the blasted rock to backfill. This area was probe-rodded and visually inspected, as density testing could not be performed on the blasted rock.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
