Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) nad for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill. The contractor placed 1 lift of approximately 50/50 mix of large rock and fine material across Lots #14 through #19. This lift appeared to have too much rock present to perform density testing. Visual methods were used to evaluate stability/compaction of the lift. The contractor used an 815 sheep-foot roller to compact the lift. This area was probe-rodded and watched loaded off road trucks roll across the lift. There were no signs of severe pumping or deflection present. The contractor stated there was between 6 to 8 feet of fill left until achieving final grade in this area. ASEC recommended not to use any rock in the within the top 4 feet nor under any footings.

The contractors main focus for the day was to build up greenspace slopes located along Lots #5 through #20 to help with water control. There is a large storm in the forecast for the weekend, so the contractor is focusing on erosion control. At 3 o’clock, the contractor stopped hauling topsoil to slopes and structural fill to the wall crew, and began slicking off the site for rain prep.

The wall crew continued building retaining wall #3. Density testing was performed on every basket, and test results were provided to the contractor. Any failing tests were addressed and retested. 2-3 baskets remain, but the wall crew was cut off due to the grading crew focusing on rain prep.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
