Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.
The site was frozen over. The grading crew was working in greenspace/slopes and on Lots #52 and #53. ASEC recommended to remove approximately 8 inches of the previous lift due to the presence of ice. The contractor agreed and removed the frozen ground. The contractor spread soil lifts of approximately 8 to 12 inches across the lots and compacted the lifts with a sheep-foot roller. Soil used for fill was excavated from a deep cut and appears to be within optimum moisture range. The soil contains a large amount of micaceous weathered rock. The contractor is separating the larger boulder size rocks from the fill. The smaller sized weathered rock appears to be breaking up under the sheep-foot roller. ASEC recommended to remove any rock larger than 2 feet in diameter from the structural fill placed within the top 4 feet of final grade. Density testing was performed and test results were provided to the contractor. Failed tests will be retested again on the following day. The grading crew had multiple pieces of equipment break down. This has slowed the pace of the placement of fill.
The pipe crew is working on erosion control for the day.
The wall crew did not show up today.
