Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

Our ASEC representative was on site to observe the contractor (NG Grading) and for the observation/testing of the placement of fill/backfill.

The grading crew continued working on greenspace/slopes and Lots #51 through #53. These lots are all within 4 feet of final grade. The contractor is spreading soil lifts of approximately 8 to 12 inches across the lots. The lifts were compacted with a sheep-foot roller. ASEC watched as loaded off road trucks rolled across the lifts to check for stability. There were no signs of severe pumping or deflection present at this time. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor. The soil used in the lifts appeared to have a large quantity of micaceous weathered rock. The contractor is attempting to remove large boulders from the fill.  The contractor spread topsoil along the slope of the front detention pond by the commercial lots.

The wall crew showed up today and began installation of retaining wall #5. The soil used for the wall appears to have a large amount of weathered rock. The wall contractors have requested the grading crew to stop sending soil with a large amount of rock. ASEC recommended to remove any large rock from the fill before installation of the baskets. The wall crew removed most of the rock. Soil lifts were placed in approximately 8-to-12-inch lifts and compacted using a small vibrating sheep-foot roller and a trench roller. Density testing was performed, and test results were provided to the contractor.

The pipe crew is installing storm line SSMH 5.0 and pipeline in roadway by Lots #18 through #22. The pipeline appears to be within approximately 2 feet from road subgrade. Density testing will be performed when this line is backfilled and compacted. The pipeline appears to run behind the curb once it crosses through the roadway.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
