FIELD OBSERVATIONS
On the above date, an AS Engineering and Consulting, LLC (ASEC) representative visited the site at the contractor’s request to observe earthwork operations and perform quality control testing associated with the proposed detention pond construction.
The contractor performed partial earthwork operations on this date. Soil material generated from nearby tree-clearing activities was transported to the work area and reused as backfill behind the proposed wall location. The material appeared to consist of soil free of visible organic matter or deleterious materials and was considered acceptable for reuse based on visual observation.
Backfill was placed in controlled lifts, spread uniformly, and moisture conditioned prior to compaction. Due to cold weather conditions, the in-place moisture content was observed to be slightly above laboratory optimum; however, it remained within an acceptable range for compaction. Compaction was performed using a sheepsfoot roller in conjunction with tracked equipment (dozer).
TESTING AND RESULTS
Field in-place density and compaction testing was performed on the completed lifts. All test results met the project specifications at the time of observation.
Earthwork operations were limited to partial lift placement only on this date. Work was suspended at the end of the day, with additional lift placement and grading to be completed during subsequent workdays.
