Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

The contractor continued sanitary sewer installation between manholes #13 and #14 with excavation being performed using a Komatsu 490 excavator. Hard and fractured stone was encountered throughout the full depth of the trench. Our representative observed hammering of this sanitary sewer line trench between manholes #13 and#14. A total of 4 hours of hammering was required. Due to the depth of the excavation a steel trench box system was installed then the trench bottom was cleaned and leveled. The subgrade was prepared using GAB bedding that was placed and then an 8-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP) was installed in 20-foot lineal sections extending approximately 80 feet in the west and then backfilled and compacted using a sheep-foot vibrator.
