Observations/Finding

As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials
submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.

On the above referenced date, our representative was on site to observe proof-rolling operations performed at the project entrance along the curb side of the roadway. Proof-rolling was performed on the prepared subgrade using a fully loaded dump truck. During proof-rolling, two soft areas were observed exhibiting deflection and pumping under truck loading. The writer also performed general probing of the soft areas using a 3/8″ diameter probe rod while the truck was in motion which confirmed yielding conditions within the upper subgrade soils. The soft areas were marked, and it was recommended that the soft materials be undercut approximately six (6) inches. It was further recommended that the undercut areas be backfilled with graded aggregate base (GAB) and compacted. The contractor indicated that a four (4) inch layer of temporary pavement is planned to be placed over the repaired areas to enable traffic. No corrective work had been completed at the time of this observation. Based on observations made at the time of this visit, the proof-rolled areas outside of the identified soft spots appeared stable for continued construction operations.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
