Daily Field Report
Observations/Finding
As requested, the site was visited by our AS Engineering and Consulting (ASEC) representative for the purpose of providing quality control inspection and testing services. Visual observation techniques were employed to verify compliance with project drawing/specifications, applicable codes, and materials submittals. The following observations were observed on site this day.
On the above date our representative was on site to observe the grading contractor continue to rip moderate to hard weathered rock at Lots #47 and 48. The contractor spent a total of six (6) hours today (8 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 6 pm) using a ripper to break up rock. The contractor placed smaller broken pieces as rock fill at building Lots #65 and 66 at elevations 890 t0 892.5 in compacted lifts. It was recommended to use off road dump trucks for additional compacting efforts during rock fill placement. The contractor also placed fill for building Lots #56 thru 58 in compacted lifts using a vibratory sheep-foot roller. The writer performed density tests for building Lots #38 and 39 using a Troxler Nuclear gauge model 3430, serial no. 91643. Compaction results were below required job specifications, and it was recommended to the contractor to perform additional compaction efforts to achieve 98% requirements in the top two feet. The contractor stated he would recompact after an upcoming rain event to add additional moisture to the dry soils.
The pipe contractor continued backfilling and connecting 8″ ductile iron sewer line to remaining existing line from structure 9-1.
The water line contractor continued installing 12″ ductile iron water line north of vale at road A crossing. The contractor also mixed concrete on site and poured the kicker at vale 90-degree bend. The contractor installed approximately forty (40) lineal feet of DIP water line south of vale and begin backfilling north of vale. The in-place backfill was probed using a rounded end steel rod and appeared to be below compaction of 93% and recommendations were made to perform additional compacting efforts.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you on this project. If you have any questions regarding this report, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than happy to discuss it with you.
